What is Green Burial?
South Florida Jewish Cemetery is proud to be Green Burial Council Certified.
According to the Green Burial Council, Green, or natural burial is a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Green burial necessitates the use of nontoxic and biodegradable materials, such as caskets, and shrouds.
Jewish burial has always been the environmentally friendly choice.
Misinformation abounds about the supposed benefits of cremation, when in reality, natural burial, with no embalming, a biodegradable casket or no casket, and no concrete vault, is the most environmentally favorable method.
A single cremation uses enough fuel to drive a car cross-country and back, and emits toxins into the air at alarming levels. Mausoleums are also not at all enviro-friendly.
Make the best choice for both the environment and for your soul.
